Project Description

We met the customers’ needs by providing them with 55 fully customized and engineered fabric structures, complete with a wide range of accessory items, and a safe, reliable training location.

The customer needed several sleep and administration areas, as well as a dining facility, in a very short amount of time. One of the main requests was that we meet an eight-week timeline, starting at the end of February. Once awarded the contract, we began installation on February 27, and were fully operational by April 16.

The next request was that the structures be completely weather-resistant, due to the extreme northern coastal location. We were happy to oblige and erected 55 fully engineered structures, all of various sizes, rated with a 120 mph wind load and 35 lbs. per square foot snow load.

We installed 51 sleep structures: (32) 16’ x 32’, (9) 16’ x 76’, and (10) 20’ x 32’; two 32’ x 40’ admin structures; and one 33’ x 148’ dining facility with a 33’ x 33’ connector tent. We installed doors, lighting, HVAC units, power distribution, and plastic flooring in all 55 structures.

What was unique about this project was that the customer was asking for a product that didn’t exist. They needed multiple structures, all various yet specific sizes, with the most extensive engineering we had ever come across. Beyond accelerated wind and snow loads, they required custom manufacturing for both the aluminum beams and fabric.

Another complex aspect of the project: accessories. We installed over 100 doors, and while most structures had only one HVAC unit, there were a few that required two. The fabric was specially designed to fit the custom framing, as well as meet the requirements of the severe weather environment. Also, with installation taking place during harsh winter months, we were met with several feet of snow, torrential rain, and heavy winds. Our experienced crew was able to work around all issues, including utilizing our existing inventory and manufacturing department, to meet the requirements and complete set-up with over a week to spare.
