Safe Tenting Professional Certification Program

Developed in partnership with Advanced Textiles Association (ATA), American Rental Association (ARA) and Manufacturers and Tent Renters Association (MATRA), this certification program provides an opportunity for hands-on learning in Safe Tenting areas such as: Anchoring (staking and ballasting), specific Tent Types (Frame Tents, Pole Tents and Structures), Flooring, Permits and Codes, Site Management and more. Tenting professionals will be able to demonstrate their skills and work toward achieving Professional and Master certification levels in their craft.

Start-to-Finish

ATA, ARA, and MATRA have joind forces to developed the Safe Tenting Professional Certification Program, including the free prerequisite Foundations of Safe Tenting online course, Level 1: Professional Tent Installer Certification, and Level 2: Master Tent Installer Certification. To proceed to the Level 2 Master Tent Installer Certification, both Level 1 certifications must be obtained. Additional courses and certification opportunities are coming soon.

Prerequisite Course

The Foundations of Safe Tenting

This course was created through a partnership between the American Rental Association (ARA), Manufacturers and Tent Renters Association (MATRA), and Advanced Textiles Association® (ATA). The goal of this course is for tenting professionals to recognize the basic terminology, practices, and procedures that produce safe and efficient tent installations and dismantles.

Courses

Essentials of Tent Anchoring

The course is designed through the partnership of ATA, ARA, and MATRA. Proper anchoring is the key to a strong and reliable tent. The Essentials of Tent Anchoring course is part of the Safe Tenting Professionals (STP) program, and offers comprehensive instruction on the correct methods, techniques, and data-driven science essentials for creating optimal tension in tents through proper anchoring. This course provides attendees with the knowledge and detailed examples needed to adequately and safely anchor various styles and types of tents for a range of applications.

Once completed, participants will have invaluable safety knowledge that will improve the efficiency and quality of tenting operations. Participants will also receive a certificate representing their advanced safety knowledge in the tenting industry and contribute towards a Master Certification.

Prerequisites:

  • Must complete the FREE online Foundations of Safe Tenting course and receive certificate
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to speak and understand English

Details:

  • Course is held entirely in-person
  • Course will be approximately 4 hours long
  • Course consists of classroom lecture, hands-on portion and a multiple-choice written exam (80% minimum score required to pass)

Essentials of Frame Tent Installation

The course is designed through the partnership of ATA, ARA, and MATRA. Building on the foundation established by Foundations of Safe Tenting and Essentials of Tent Anchoring, this course dives deeper into the specific techniques, tools, materials and safety protocols required for successful frame tent installation. Together, these courses continue your path to certification, designed to raise the standard of safety and professionalism across the tent rental and installation industry.

Once completed, participants will have invaluable safety knowledge that will improve the efficiency and quality of tenting operations. Participants will also receive a certificate representing their advanced safety knowledge in the tenting industry and contribute towards a Professional and/or Master Certification.

Prerequisites:

  • Must complete the FREE online Foundations of Safe Tenting course and receive certificate
  • Must complete the Essentials of Tent Anchoring course and receive certificate
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to speak and understand English

  • Course is held entirely in-person
  • Course will be approximately 6 hours long (including a break for lunch)
  • Course consists of classroom lecture, hands-on portion and a multiple-choice written exam (80% minimum score required to pass)

Essentials of Pole Tent Installation

Building on the foundation established by Foundations of Safe Tenting and Essentials of Tent Anchoring, this course focuses on the key techniques and considerations for successful pole tent installation.

Together with the prerequisite courses, this training supports your path to certification and helps elevate safety across the tent rental and installation industry.

Upon completion, participants will gain valuable safety knowledge to improve the efficiency and quality of tenting operations. Participants will also receive a certificate recognizing their advanced safety knowledge and contributing toward Professional and/or Master Certification.

Prerequisites:

  • Must complete the FREE online Foundations of Safe Tenting course and receive certificate
  • Must complete the Essentials of Tent Anchoring course and receive certificate
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to speak and understand English
